This project stems from the personal experiences of trans and non-binary individuals. It’s more than just an initiative, it has in fact become a necessity. Navigating a world that isn’t always understanding is challenging. We frequently encounter situations where people misgender us, stumble over pronouns, or avoid the conversation out of fear of making mistakes. We understand that this is new for many people, and it certainly requires practice. That’s why we, the trans community, are reaching out to you. With Pro-Now, we hope to connect and provide you with a space to practise and make mistakes. Together, we can work towards a society where everyone feels like they are seen and are heard.

Pro-Now is an online tool to practise using pronouns correctly. The goal is to raise awareness and provide a safe space for those wanting to learn about inclusive language.
Pro-Now consists of five different quizzes, each with three levels. As you progress, the levels become slightly more challenging. During the quizzes, you are introduced to 16 different people. Your task is to remember their pronouns as best you can and then fill these in correctly. In addition, you can also create your own quiz. For example, you can practice using the name and pronouns of someone that you know. Would you like others to practice with your pronouns? Then you can create a personal quiz and share it with the people around you. Pro-Now is completely free to use.
Research from Trevor's project shows that 56% of trans men, 48% of trans women and 48% of non-binary youth have seriously considered suicide. Of these numbers, nearly 1 in 5 trans and non-binary youth actually attempt. Young people whose pronouns are respected by everyone around them report nearly half as many suicide attempts. This underscores how important social support is. The correct use of language can save lives, so let’s work towards a society where everyone feels seen and heard! so let’s work towards a society where everyone feels seen and heard!
Pro-Now is for anyone who wants to practise using pronouns. You might have a child who uses new pronouns, maybe you interact with trans and non-binary people at work, or you simply want to learn. Whatever the reason, Pro-Now offers a place to practise, whether you’re a beginner or already a pro!
Pronouns are used to address people without mentioning their name. Everyone uses pronouns, often without realising it. Examples of pronouns include: he/him, she/her, they/them, and ze/zir. Everyone has a preference on how they’d like to be addressed. Read the blog here ‘What are pronouns?’
On Pro-Now you can practice in both Dutch and English. Useful if you are learning Dutch, or just want to practice pronouns in English. Want to switch languages during the quiz? You can! Just click on the flag at the bottom of the quiz and everything will be translated immediately, without losing your progress.
